I've always been amazed with abandoned places like these. Why? Ewan. I just like the feel of it's mystery. And i feel the urge of wanting to know the stories behind those places. If given a chance i would want to see these places in person. It would be very amazing.

1. PRYPIAT (Ukraine): Chernobyl workers' home

An abandoned city in the Zone of alienation in Ukraine, northern part. This is where Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant workers lived until they abandoned it in 1986 following the Chernobyl disaster. Its population had been around 50,000 before the accident.

2. CRACO (Italy): a fascinating medieval town

Craco can be found in the Region of Basilicata and the Province of Matera, 25 miles inland from the Gulf of Taranto at the instep of the “boot” of Italy. This medieval town is typical of those in the area, built up with long undulating hills all around that allow for the farming of wheat and other crops.

Between 1892 and 1922 over 1,300 people moved from the town to North America. Poor farming was added to by earthquakes, landslides, and War which caused this mass migration. In 1891, the population of Craco stood at well over 2,000 people. Though there had been many problems, with poor agricultural conditions creating desperate times. Between 1959 and 1972 Craco was plagued by quakes and landslides. In 1963 the remaining 1,800 inhabitants were transferred to a nearby valley called Craco Peschiera, and the original Craco remains in a state of crumbling decay to this day.

3. KOLMANSKOP (Namibia): Buried in sand

Kolmanskop is located in southern Namibia, few kilometres inland from the port of Lüderitz. In 1908, Luederitz was plunged into diamond fever and people came rushing to Namib desert hoping to make an easy fortune. Within two years, a town, complete with a school, casino, hospital and exclusive residential buildings, was established in the sandy desert. But then there was a drop in diamon sales after the First World War, the beginning of the end then started. During the 1950's the town was deserted and the dunes began to reclaim what was always theirs.

Soon the metal screens collapsed and the pretty gardens and tidy streets were buried under the sand. Doors and windows creaked on their hinges, cracked window panes stared sightlessly across the desert. A new ghost town had been born.

4. ORADOUR-SUR-GLANE (France): the horror of WWII

5. Katoli World, Taiwan

Katoli World is situated in the Dakeng Scenic area just outside of Taichung, Taiwan. Opened in the mid eighties, it enjoyed moderate success as one of the few theme parks on the island of Taiwan to host a rollercoaster (two). The park was closed after a massive earthquake on September 21st, 1999. Thousands of people were killed during the quake but nobody inside the park as it struck after opening hours. Large areas of the park were destroyed and it was forced to close. A place once vivid with young laughter is now slowly turning to rust.
